Can I check in with my camper throughout the day? Can I visit?

If you’d like to check-in on your camper, the best way is to call our office at 516-626-1100 during the camp day and we will have the director of your camper’s program call you back with a detailed update. You can also email summerprograms@luhi.org to make that request, but please know that you may not receive an immediate response.

Under certain circumstances, certain Specialty Programs may invite parents to an end-of-session performance, however that is not always the case. Our office will be in touch with that information, should parents be invited to our campus.

We encourage all families to visit LuHi together during our Summer Kick-Off Event, Sunday, June 9th! This is a great opportunity to see our campus, meet our staff, and experience a piece of LuHi together as a family!

Is the facility air-conditioned? How much time will my camper spend outside?

Certain areas throughout campus are air-conditioned such as the Dance Studio, Performing Arts Center, STEM Lab, and Ammerman Gym, amongst others. While campers’ time outside varies by program, all program schedules are intentionally designed to balance indoor and outdoor time appropriately. Our pool is located outdoors.

Can my camper bring a cell phone or video game to camp?

We strongly encourage campers to leave cell phones, video game devices, and other valuables at home. Throughout the day, campers will be engrossed in activities that may involve athletic competition, water, paint, clay, and other art materials, or additional things that could damage their valuables and electronic devices. Also, most of the activities throughout the day will require campers to be fully engaged, and phones or other devices can be a major distraction, hindering their ability to get the most out of their camp experience. Please also note that LuHi Summer Programs is not responsible for lost or damaged items that are brought to camp.

What should my child bring to camp?

Campers should bring a bag with a refillable water bottle, sunscreen, bathing suit, & towel. Some programs require other specific materials/items, so please check our website or digital program guide for that information.

Does every program have swim?

Some programs, such as LuHi Country Day and NXT Generation G.I.F.T., may have instructional & free swim periods built into their daily schedules. All other programs have a rotating schedule that offers an optional swim or waterslide period daily!

For Example: One week basketball campers may have the option of a free swim on Tuesday & Thursday, as well as an option to use the waterslides on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The next week it may switch to a free swim on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, with a waterslide option on Tuesday and Thursday.

Does LuHi provide towel service or sunscreen to campers?

LuHi does not provide towel service or sunscreen to campers. All campers should bring their own bathing suit and towel to camp each day. Campers in LuHi Country Day are encouraged to come to camp wearing their bathing suit, in an effort to limit the changing periods required. Campers also need to bring their own sunscreen, either spray or lotion.

Do I need to pack lunch? Is there a lunch program?

LuHi does offer an extensive Lunch Program with hot & cold selections for $65 per Week/$130 per Session. LuHi’s Lunch Program includes two entrees, a side, and a drink daily. On select days, depending on their program, campers also have the option of buying a snack from the canteen at the end of the day.

If your family prefers, you can most certainly send your camper with a packed lunch everyday. Please Note: Refrigeration is not available, so we advise all packed lunches are brought in an iced, insulated lunch pack.

Am I eligible for transportation?

LuHi offers transportation to and from Eastern Queens, Nassau County, and Western Suffolk County.

Centralized Transportation is included in the cost of each program. Campers taking advantage of this service are assigned to a specific pick-up and drop-off point within their community, which wills service as their LuHi bus stop. Door-To-Door Transportation may also be available for your family, depending on where you are located. Please Note: There is an additional fee of $275 per week, per camper for Door-To-Door Transportation. We are unable to offer a Sibling Discount at this time.

A list of some of our Central Locations can be found on our website. Please Note: These locations are established based on enrollment, and all are subject to change.

Specifics about your family’s official central location assignment, timing, bus counselors, and procedures are provided to families via email once that information has been confirmed by our bus companies, typically the Thursday or Friday before each Session begins.

Can my camper go home with another camper? Can someone else pick up my camper?

Campers CANNOT ride any bus aside from their own, under any circumstances. A camper may get off at another camper’s stop on their same route if our office receives written permission from a parent/legal guardian.

Families are able to add trusted adults to your camper’s’ “Authorized Pick-up List” via your CampBrain portal. Campers will not be released to anyone other than a parent/legal guardian without that adult being listed on the campers “Authorized Pick-up List” or without written permission.

How do I register?
